H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh launched the first Yavari Project Appeal 20 years ago with a donation. To reaffirm his continued support, he has very kindly contributed again to this, our final push. We are deeply grateful to him for this invaluable endorsement – and ask you to follow his lead.
Having now restored the YAVARI, the aim of The Yavari Project is to provide the ship with the standards of safety and accommodation appropriate for 40 passengers and 10 crew to enjoy day cruising around Lake Titicaca and its islands. An investment of money, professionals’ time and goods in kind valued at £350.000 has been made so far.
Another £350,000 is needed to complete the project. The goal is now within sight.
All that remains is to:-
modify the ship to comply with international regulations governing safety of life at sea (SOLAS). These require the installation of new bulkheads, generators, sanitary, fuel and lighting systems and fire fighting, life saving and navigational equipment etc.
provide the space and comfort expected by the discerning traveller of the 21st century. This requires reinstating the superstructure and funnel removed in the 1950s and furnishing the interior.
The Estimate for this work is £350,000 ($630,000)
